GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro police on Friday updated the Club O shooting case, saying Donovan Cornell Bass, 33, now faces 13 charges connected to gunfire at the West Market Street nightclub on Sept. 20 that left one person dead and several others hurt.

Assistant Chief Milford J. Harris said Bass is not charged in the death of Marvin Watlington, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said five people were wounded by gunfire and another person was injured by broken glass.

Warrants obtained Monday charged Bass with two counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, one count of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Additional warrants served Thursday while he was held in the Guilford County Jail added eight counts of felony discharging a firearm into occupied property and one count of injury to real property.

Harris said the Thursday warrants cover each of eight rounds police say Bass fired into the business. Investigators have not said how many people fired weapons that night or whether more suspects could be charged. Bass remains in the Guilford County Jail. One local report said he was denied bond with a next court date of Dec. 3.

Officers responded about 1:55 a.m. after reports of multiple people shot outside the club. North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement has assisted the probe and previously described a fight that spilled outside before gunfire. ALE also raised questions about club security screening. Crime Stoppers is asking anyone with information to call 336-373-1000.

Greensboro Police Chief Kamran Afzal department is leading the active investigation as Mayor Marikay Abuzuaiter city administration tracks downtown public-safety fallout along West Market Street.
