GREENSBORO, N.C. — Volvo Trucks North America showed off a new heavy-haul and job-site truck on Wednesday, debuting the Volvo VNX at an outdoor launch staged at the company’s Greensboro headquarters.

The VNX is aimed at rough work: construction, concrete, logging, farming, municipal snowplowing and heavy highway hauling. It is the third all-new model the company has brought to North America in under three years, following the VNL in 2024 and VNR in 2025. Unlike those two, this one is designed to leave the pavement. All three ride on a shared platform that grew out of a $3 billion Volvo investment in product development and manufacturing. Dealers can begin selling the VNX on Oct. 26.

More than 3,300 Volvo employees worked on the design. Company president Peter Voorhoeve credited the Greensboro workforce, saying designers, engineers, sales staff and purchasers all had a hand in building the new platform.

On the spec sheet, the D13 engine tops out at 540 horsepower, with torque of up to 1,950 pound-feet and an engine brake good for 630 braking horsepower. Forward pedestrian detection comes standard, and a Remote Steer feature lets an operator guide the truck from outside the cab at up to 5 miles per hour in tight spaces. The cab uses a third more ultra high strength steel than older vocational models.

Volvo Trucks North America is on the list of the Greensboro area’s top 50 employers, and automotive parts tied to its regional operations, along with Mack Trucks, rank among the top five imports by value moving through the local economy.
