CALGARY, Alberta — The Carolina Hurricanes saw their seven-game winning run come to an end Sunday night, falling 3-2 to the Calgary Flames on a goal in the final minutes at Scotiabank Saddledome.
Yegor Sharangovich decided it at 15:32 of the third period. Morgan Frost slid a saucer pass across the ice, and Sharangovich beat Hurricanes goalie Brandon Bussi with a one-timer. It was his second goal of the season.
Carolina struck first. Jesperi Kotkaniemi pushed a rebound over the right pad of Calgary goalie Devin Cooley at 6:09 of the second period, giving him goals in back-to-back games.
The second period then turned wild in its final 90 seconds. Matvei Gridin evened it with a wrist shot at 18:30, Frost put the Flames ahead on a power play at 19:39 in his 400th NHL game, and defenseman Jalen Chatfield answered just 17 seconds later at 19:56 with a shot from the far boards that found the top corner.
The Hurricanes outshot Calgary 36-34 but could not solve Cooley, who stopped 34. Bussi turned aside 31. Carolina went scoreless on the power play and won just 25 of 58 faceoffs, and a crowd of 16,464 watched the Flames pick up their first home win of the season.
The loss also ended a franchise-best streak of five consecutive road wins. Carolina was playing for the second straight night after a 3-2 victory at Winnipeg on Saturday and drops to 7-2-1, while Calgary improves to 2-6-0.
Forward Mark Jankowski sat out with a lower-body injury and was sent home for evaluation. He had scored in six games in a row. Nicolas Deslauriers took his place in the lineup and helped set up the Kotkaniemi goal along with Eric Robinson.
