GREENSBORO, N.C. — A Guilford County Schools bus with 33 students aboard was involved in a crash with an SUV on Monday morning in Greensboro, leaving at least four people needing medical care at the scene.

The bus and SUV collided where Owls Roost Road meets US 220, a stretch of road better known locally as Battleground Avenue, close to Bur-Mil Park in northwest Greensboro. Emergency crews were alerted at about 7:50 a.m. The students were riding to Kernodle Middle School.

A school district spokesperson said those who were checked out at the scene were treated there and nobody had to be taken away by ambulance. The district did not say whether the people treated were students, the bus driver or people in the other vehicle.

Guilford County EMS sent multiple units, and Greensboro police officers also responded. Both the bus and an SUV were left with front-end damage, with debris spread across the roadway. Guilford County Schools confirmed the count of 33 students aboard at the time, and Greensboro police were on hand along with the ambulance crews.

The school principal and members of the district’s transportation team went to the scene to help students and families. A second bus was brought in to finish the trip to Kernodle Middle.

The cause of the collision is under review by the school system’s transportation staff along with police. No information on charges or citations had been released. Drivers who use Battleground Avenue during the morning school run should expect buses at that intersection and give them extra room.
