GREENSBORO, N.C. — Drivers in Greensboro will run into closed streets and detours starting Friday as the city sets up for Aggie FanFest, the free festival that anchors homecoming weekend at North Carolina A&T State University.

The festival runs Friday through Sunday at War Memorial Stadium, 510 Yanceyville St. City officials call it the largest special event Greensboro manages itself, with turnout topping 65,000 people over homecoming weekend. Visitors will find live music, food and drink, and vendors selling apparel and other merchandise.

The Greensboro Police Department says festival closures go into effect between 8 a.m. and noon on Friday, Oct. 30. Downtown streets were also being blocked off for vendor setup, and some restrictions will carry into Sunday morning. Police expect every closure to be cleared by 10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1.

Police have posted a closure map showing the streets and areas affected around the stadium and downtown. Anyone driving through the area should allow extra time, expect slow traffic near the festival grounds and pick alternate routes where they can.

Admission to FanFest is free, but organizers have published a list of items that are not allowed on the festival grounds, so guests should review it before they arrive. The festival also brings vendor trucks, stage crews and extra police into the blocks around the stadium all weekend.

Homecoming weekend typically brings heavy foot traffic on the streets around the stadium, so drivers should also watch for pedestrians crossing outside the usual crosswalks, especially in the evening.

Visitors who plan to attend are encouraged to check road and traffic conditions before they leave home and to give themselves extra time to park.
