Greensboro, N.C. — Liam Percy led the Spartans with a seven-under-par 206 score after carding rounds of 68-69-69, tying for 15th place out of 108 competitors at the Elon Phoenix Invitational.
Lincoln Newton and Cole Isbell tied for 33rd place. Newton, who fired rounds of 77-68 on day one, moved up 40 spots with his 67 during the final round to finish with a one-under-par 212.
Isbell, who carded a 74-67 on Monday, finished with a 71 during the third round, also finishing with a one-under-par 212. Keenan Royalty rounded out the Blue and Gold competitors, tying for 89th place after rounds of 76-68-78.
UNC Greensboro sent individuals to the Elon Phoenix Invitational for the midweek fall event, extending the college golf schedule after recent Southern Conference and invitational play for the Blue and Gold.
UNC Greensboro is among Greensboro major employers and a primary college athletics anchor in the city. The UNC Greensboro Spartans brand covers the mens golf program that sent Percy, Newton, Isbell and Royalty to Elon.
Percy seven-under total was the clearest UNCG line on the leaderboard, while Newton final-round 67 provided the biggest single-day climb among the Greensboro contingent as the fall slate continues.
The Elon Phoenix Invitational drew 108 competitors across the field, and UNCG individuals used the three-round format to post under-par finishes for Percy, Newton and Isbell while Royalty closed the Blue and Gold group.
Fall invitationals remain a key depth-building stretch for college programs in the Piedmont Triad, and the Spartans results keep local golfers on the regional leaderboard heading into the next event on the schedule.
