Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital is the flagship and largest medical center in the Greensboro region. Established in 1953 and part of the Cone Health network, this nonprofit, teaching hospital sits on a 63‑acre campus and offers 517–628 beds, depending on sources. It serves as a major referral and trauma center for Guilford County and surrounding areas.
Funded through a trust by Bertha Cone beginning in 1911 to honor her late husband, Moses Cone, the hospital admitted its first patient in 1953. It continues its mission of community-focused care, guided by the principle that no patient should be denied treatment due to inability to pay.
Moses Cone Hospital is a Level II Trauma Center and teaching hospital with wide-ranging specialties: cardiovascular (Heart & Vascular Center), neurosurgery, orthopedics, stroke care, inpatient rehabilitation, women’s and children’s health (via its Women’s & Children’s Center), pediatrics, internal medicine, and a robust emergency department. The Women’s & Children’s Center, opened in 2020, includes maternity suites and a neonatal ICU.
The hospital’s extensive campus houses multiple towers, including a patient tower (North Tower) opened in 2014, and a dedicated outpatient heart and vascular tower launched in 2022. Services include emergency care, urgent care clinics, and a wide network of affiliated primary and specialty clinics.
As a teaching hospital, Moses H. Cone provides extensive residency and fellowship programs across multiple disciplines. The organization also engages deeply with the community through health education, charitable care, and outreach. Cone Health employs over 13,000 staff across its network, with Moses Cone at the core.
General visiting hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Patients and families should confirm any special restrictions or guidelines before visiting, including for pediatric units, ICU, or during may of flu season.
The hospital is easily accessible from downtown Greensboro via North Church Street. For appointments, referrals, or general inquiries, call the main line at (336) 832‑7000. On-site services include valet parking, visitor parking decks, cafeteria, and support services.
