GREENSBORO, N.C. — Southeast Greensboro, where church leaders say medical care is harder to find than in other parts of the city, is getting a new medical plaza. Novant Health and Mount Zion Baptist Church broke ground on the project Monday.
Novant’s partner on the Zion Hills Medical Plaza is the church-owned Mount Zion Development Company. Plans call for primary care, women’s health, pediatrics, diabetes management, endocrinology, and heart and vascular care in one building, along with an on-site lab, imaging, employer services and a community health social worker.
Leaders said the building will bring more than 60 full-time jobs to the area. Doors are set to open in spring 2028.
The plaza is only one piece of a larger plan the church is guiding. The development around Mount Zion also calls for hundreds of new homes, according to a concept plan drawn up for the church by McAdams engineering.
Bishop Bryan J. Pierce Sr., the church’s senior pastor, said in a release that his congregation sees firsthand how hard it can be to get care in southeast Greensboro compared with other parts of the city, and he called the partnership an answer to prayer. Dr. Chan Badger, who leads primary care services for Novant Health, said the goal is to make trusted care easier to reach and, over time, to create new jobs and partnerships across Guilford County.
Novant has not released a construction cost or exact address for the plaza. The project adds to the health system’s list of facilities in Greensboro.
