GREENSBORO, N.C. — North Carolina A&T gave its 100th Greatest Homecoming on Earth a winning finish Saturday in Greensboro, N.C., beating Elon 13-10 on a late field goal before a sellout crowd of 22,401 at Truist Stadium.
Freshman kicker Asher Holland provided every margin the Aggies needed. His 34-yard kick on fourth-and-one with 2:18 to play broke a 10-10 tie after an eight-play, 38-yard drive to the Elon 17.
Elon still had a chance. A 36-yard completion from Brady Stober to Alex Voss and a pass-interference flag moved the Phoenix inside the A&T 20. With 44 seconds left, though, Tyrek Brown dropped Stober for a sack and knocked the ball loose, and Cadricus Stanley fell on it so the Aggies could kneel out the clock.
Defense ruled the first half. Holland put A&T up 3-0 with a 25-yarder 21 seconds before the break. Elon answered quickly after halftime, tying it on a Luke Barnes field goal set up by a muffed kickoff, then going ahead 10-3 when Kamerin McDowell-Moore ran in from 2 yards after an Aggie fumble.
Quarterback Kevin White led the reply, ripping off a 39-yard run on third down during a 12-play march and finishing it with an 8-yard scoring toss to Jayvonne Dillard with 31 seconds left in the third quarter. White ended with 95 yards on the ground and 98 through the air.
A&T outgained Elon 266-201, ran for 168 yards and posted four sacks despite three turnovers. McDowell-Moore carried 25 times for 102 yards for the Phoenix.
The win was the third straight for the Aggies, now 4-5 and 3-2 in the Coastal Athletic Association after a 1-5 start, and their first over Elon since 2019. Elon fell to 4-5 and 2-3. Players from both teams scuffled briefly after the final whistle before leaving the field, and the two schools said a joint review settled the matter.
