GREENSBORO, N.C. — Crews began rehabilitating a water line under Mecklenburg Road in Greensboro, N.C., on Monday, and drivers on that stretch should expect lane closures on and off every day until Jan. 11.
The affected section sits between Gaston Road and 5405 Mecklenburg Rd. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., so morning and afternoon commuters who use the road can expect slowdowns while a lane is shut. City officials are asking drivers to pick another route if they can. Signs and traffic cones will mark the work zone.
The project falls under the city’s Water Rehabilitation Program, which is paid for through water and sewer utility bills rather than a separate tax. Mainlining America is the city contractor doing the job and can be reached at 336-825-0637.
The calendar is not fixed. Bad weather or a late change in the crew schedule could shift dates and hours, so the closures may end earlier or later than planned.
Residents can follow this and other street projects, and sign up for email alerts about upcoming closures, at greensboro-nc.gov/RoadProjects. Questions about the job can go to Shane Messer at 336-574-3550.
For drivers, the practical takeaway is simple. Allow extra time on weekdays during daytime hours through the holiday season, or plan a way around the Gaston Road end of the work area until the city wraps up the job in the new year. Evening and early morning trips should be clear of the daily work window.
Anyone who spots a main break, a sewer backup or tap water that suddenly tastes, smells or looks different should call the Water Resources dispatch line, staffed around the clock, at 336-373-2033.
